With a thriving social media following and a love for baking, it seemed like the natural next step for Kelly was to go to culinary school. However, two months into the course she realised that it was not a good fit for her. Struggling with her mental health, she dropped out and pivoted to working full time.

With a trove of incredibly viral recipes already under her belt, such as her frog donuts, Kelly then got the opportunity to write a cookbook. Despite being an online baker, she sees enormous value in having a tangible cookbook to share her work through.

「I want to make baking as accessible to the audiences that maybe don’t know me so well”, she says.

「I wanted to share my favourite recipes in a way that’s more personal and obviously meet the people who have supported me for so long. With the going abroad and going to the UK and seeing my book in shops there and signing them and meeting people who are passionate about baking and my content, That is the main driver of why I wanted to do this。」

This wasn’t her first offer of a cookbook, however, as the first one didn’t work out: “I had the imposter syndrome of ‘I’m too young, I’m too dumb, I can’t do this’. And I’m sad I didn’t, but I’m really grateful now that I got the book in the position that I am now. I know it turned out way better than that book would have been.”

「Whenever I post a video, and it doesn’t do well, it’s like, ‘Oh, this shouldn’t be my job, and I shouldn’t be doing this’. And then the next time I post, it does really well. And really, it’s down to the audience and what they make of things.

「But also saying to myself, “This is somehow my job. I should be grateful for it.” I know I know how to do it and I know how to do it well. And it’s like every other job. I pay my taxes, and I do my due diligence. So why should I have to feel so terrible all the time when I’m doing something that I love so much?」
